Walmart’s Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy allows eligible employees to take time off work to deal with health issues, family emergencies, or spend time with family. PTO can be taken beginning at 15-minute intervals, and there is no cap if associates have an available balance. Walmart will deny PTO if it is not requested by the associates as soon as possible.

  • What is the Difference between Regular and Protected PTO at Walmart?

Walmart offers two kinds of paid time off (PTO), Regular PTO or Protected. This is to help associates have a balanced work/life life.

Associate can schedule regular PTO to take time off to be with family, to care for medical issues, or to enjoy holidays, without worrying about whether they’ll get paid.

Protected Time Off covers any health-related emergency or family member.

You may worry about your job in an emergency. But Walmart’s Protected Time Off gives associates protection when they suddenly need to take time off.

Walmart has PTO policies that protect both employee and employer.

You can find additional information for employees about PTO, Protected Paid Leave Off and other benefits here.

Associates who are caring for someone with chronic illnesses or other long-term conditions should apply for approved Leave of Absence.

Walmart: Which Employees Are Eligible for Personal Leave?

Walmart allows hourly full time, part-time, or seasonal employees to earn PTO. The rate that PTO can be earned varies depending on the category.

Although seasonal workers and temporary employees can be entitled to PTO they do not earn the same amount as regular PTO.

    How is Walmart PTO Calculated

Walmart has a system that calculates PTO hours based on how an associate works, whether they are hourly workers or salaried, what position they hold and the time they have been with the company.

For example, if an employee has worked at Walmart for three years, they may earn PTO at a rate of 1 hour for every 11.8 hours worked.

However, employees that have worked 20 years may earn PTO at a rate of 1 hour for every 6.8 hours worked, and a more detailed schedule can be found after logging into the Walmart Employee Portal or reading the Wire.

What Counts Toward Earning PTO Hours? What is the best way to earn PTO while on PTO?

It may be a surprise to find out that associates can continue to accrue PTO even while using their PTO time.

PTO is earned through hourly service hours for Walmart, which includes the following:

  • Overtime and regular hours
  • The ability to recover from disasters
  • Begathing (upto 3 days)
  • Jury duty
  • Increased military leave hours
  • Pay reporting
  • Work hours can be replaced by PTO
  • If PTO has expired, sick and personal time
  • If I Work On A Holiday, Can I Use My PTO On That Day?

Since Walmart locations are open on many holidays, associates may be scheduled to work. Associates may be able to use the available PTO hours if they wish to spend time with their family.

However, you cannot use PTO hours and be paid to work in the store during a holiday.

What does a year look like for the PTO Plan?

The Walmart PTO Plan Year is not a calendar year. It runs from February 1, to January 31, of the next year.

Are my Accrued Hours of PTO Attributable to the End Of The Year?

The plan year will end with up to 80 hours PTO for FT Associates, and 48 hours for PT Associates.

Any associate with more PTO hours than these amounts will have the balance “cashed out” and paid on their first paycheck in February.

Because the money you receive will be taxable, your cash-out payment payments will also have to meet the same taxes as your hourly wage.

How do I request PTO from Walmart?

You must go to the Global Time & Attendance Portal (GTAP), to make a request to approve a PTO.

Management must be notified immediately if employees are aware they need time off. This will ensure there is enough staff to replace them.

Since this process is automated, the GTAP system will decide the appropriate type of PTO for your situation.

Take, for example, sick time. Then any protected PTO that is available will be used.

Due to the unpredictable nature and severity of sicknesses, PTO can be requested for any illness that causes you to miss work. However, you must have enough Protected PTO in order to make up the missed time.

Any other reason an associate needs PTO for, including the wait time for short-term disability to begin, will be treated as Regular PTO and an unprotected absence.

Walmart Associates: How Many Consecutive Hours of PTO can they Use?

Associates can begin requests for PTO within 15 minutes.

Currently, the maximum number of days consecutively that an associate may request is unlimited if they have enough time in their PTO.

What happens if I need more time off?

Full-time Walmart associates are entitled to short-term disabilities benefits that will allow you to prolong your time off due to a serious condition.

An LOA can be applied for in cases where short-term disabilities cannot be used. For example, if a loved one is ill.

    Can Walmart Deny PTO?

Walmart has a policy that associates should request PTO when they feel the need. Associates who do not have enough PTO hours can refuse to request it.

If there aren’t enough people to fill your request, the management may deny you a PTO.

Keep in mind that any absence can still be counted as an occurrence according to Walmart’s attendance policy.

  • Conclusion
  • Walmarts PTO policy stipulates that any eligible employee can use their time off for holidays or sick leave as long they’ve earned enough PTO.

How Much Pto Do You Get At Walmart?

Part-time hours associates can take over 80 hours each year of PTO. An hourly employee can only carry over 48 hours. This gives you more flexibility to take a vacation at a time of the year you choose.

Walmart: How long will it take to earn a Pto?

PTO years are determined by the date you reach your work anniversary during each plan year. This is not the current tenure. You can therefore ‘level up’ early. PTO can be used as soon as possible after you have earned it.

Is Pto Transferable to Next Year Walmart

Protected PTO that you don’t use will just roll over to the next year, with no maximum or limit. Your regular PTO can be converted into cash if you save it at the end. If you’ve got 80 or more hours of protected PTO (48 hours for part-time), you’ll cash out any remaining regular PTO.

Walmart: What is the Pto calculation?

You earn PTO hours based on how long you’ve been with Walmart and the number of service hours you’ve worked (on duty hours, driving and not driving, plus benefit hours). Instead of waiting for your anniversary, your PTO is available immediately.
