I opened the package to discover an chain oil stihl, filthy, worn-painted Stihl 026 with a bar and chain that at the moment seems too close or maybe worse (bad oiler? ).
I asked the guy about it and he said it was a $200 consignment, supposedly with a tool bag containing an electric sharpener. The condition was so bad that I couldn’t wait to get started and didn’t want to look at the equipment. I wish I had now. A search on eBay for Stihl 026 reveals a lot of saws with no extra gear, but they look cleaner and cost more than $200. Do I think it was defective? Assuming it works and that all controls work, including the chain brake,
Evidently, I don’t have a compression measure. How can I find out more? I’d be OK to take the saw apart and position it in better condition. It’d be a project…I just hope it won’t get too costly (with the aid of eBay/Bailey’s/Chainsaw etc. for any parts needed).

It is difficult to choose the right Stihl Chainsaw. People are very careful about their purchases. In my opinion, the best Stihl chainsaw model is the MS 250. It is a great model for both beginners and professionals.

So I’m starting to consider a new Stihl that can try to replace the model 026 lightweight, high-power, ultra-reliable and insanely robust. Are saws made today to the same caliber of this legendary steed power, or is there no real modern counterpart to a saw of such stature as the legendary 026? A used saw’s only true test is to run it through a few slices. A compression test at least guarantees engine sales. Visual just inspection presence of small holes, bottom state of leakage, etc. The chainsaw was a really good day saw. $150-$300.00 (Tested) norm! Step forward, don’t look back. I think it’s a chainsaw if there’s one thing you’d never buy. Especially one looks abused. For eg, I have a 24-year-old Jonsrud looking brand new and I’d never sell it to a friend.
