How does an abscessed teeth be treated?

Treatment aims to remove the infection as well as prevent any complications. You have several options for treatment.

Drilling and drainage: The dentist may make small cuts in your abscess in order to drain the pus. The area may need to be kept open by a small rubber drain.

Root canal: This treatment can remove the root cause of your infection and save your tooth. Commonly, this procedure involves removing the infected pulp from the tooth and filling the empty space with materials to prevent future infections. It is crucial that the inner pulp be present when the tooth is developing, but it can also serve as a protective layer once the tooth matures. Although your tooth should look normal following the procedure, it may require a crown to preserve the root canal. It can last for many years if you take good care of it.

Tooth extraction. Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved. In these cases your dentist will need to remove the tooth and allow pus to drain from it.

Antibiotics. You may not need antibiotics if the infection isn’t severe. However, your dentist may suggest them for you to help with dental care. While antibiotics may be helpful in fighting off bacteria that remains, they will not eliminate the source of the infection.

The Tooth Extraction Process

Anesthesia is required for tooth extraction. Your dentist will then remove the infected tooth using a special tool.

The anesthesia will numb your affected area to ensure that there is no pain during pulling or prying. However, you might feel pain after the anesthesia wears off.

The risk of infection is high when a tooth has to be extracted. An empty space is left in the mouth once the tooth has gone. It could become a breeding area for bacteria.

The loss of a tooth can cause problems for neighboring teeth. They aren’t given any assistance and could become weaker or move around the mouth. It can lead to misalignment, overcrowding, overlap, or even overcrowding.

It is important to note that one missing tooth could cause others to loosen, and your entire set of teeth may become loose or infected.

What can you do to heal an abscessed tooth

An abscessed teeth treatment focuses on treating the problem and relieving any pain. Your symptoms may dictate if your dentist recommends a dental scan. It will allow them to determine if there is an infection in other parts of the mouth.

There are many treatment options depending on the extent and type of your abscess.

Drainage of the abscess. A small cut will be made by the dentist to drain any pus. You’ll be cleaned with a solution of saline.

Root canal treatment. The root canal procedure involves drilling in the affected tooth to remove the pulp and drain the abscess. The next step is to seal the pulp chamber that holds pulp. A crown may be used to reinforce your tooth. The procedure of crowning a tooth is normally done at a separate appointment.

Tooth extraction. Your dentist can remove a tooth that is severely broken before draining the infection. If it is not possible to save the tooth, the dentist will remove the infection and drain the pus.

Antibiotics. Oral antibiotics may be prescribed by your dentist if you are experiencing an infection that has not resolved within the affected area.

Foreign object removal. A dentist will treat an abscess that is the result of a foreign object within your gums. The dentist will then clean the abscess with a saline solution.

To ease the pain, you may be able to take an over-the counter anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin). It may help to rinse your mouth using warm salt water.

Everyone is professional and dedicated to deliver the best. I am sorry, I don’t remember all the names of the wonderful staff. Some of the names of the wonderful team members I remember I would like to mention like : Dr. Bains, Alex, Anna and Rupa. I have been going to Angel Care Dental since I was a young child… so quite a while 😉 and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The facility is beautiful, the care and gentle touch mean everything to me because I don’t like going to the dentist – who does? But it’s different here and I leave feeling genuinely happy. Mihaela is the BEST hygienist and Dr Galo is kind and extremely gentle. Even a root canal isn’t half bad with Dr Galo! Dr Soraya is also wonderful! Thanks Angel Care. ☺️ – Tara H
