Big Bertha B21 Driver Review
Big Bertha B21 Driver Review
What Are People Saying About This Driver In 2022?
People who are using the GBB Epic Driver are saying the following about their use of the driver after purchasing:
It’s amazing- it gives me another 20 miles on my driveway.”
“Best driver I’ve ever owned. My handicap is 23 and I am 65. I get a good 20 yards more on my drives. Very forgiving on miss hits.”
“Best driver I’ve owned…forgiving, long, great contact sound.”
“Meanwhile, I can’t praise enough this club for providing this player with more accuracy and greater distance.”
However, a less favourable review of the product states:
“I didn’t like the club due to the lack of sound when making contact with the ball.”
Is It Good For High Handicappers?
High handicappers will love the Callaway Big Bertha driver.
In fact, we can’t think of any other category of players that would benefit from the performance features of the Callaway Big Bertha driver more than high handicappers.
First of all, it has pronounced offset and internal draw bias so it will be helpful for high handicappers who are trying to correct a slice. The head, which is huge but legal, makes it easy to find the sweet spot regardless of your swing precision.
Our group of high handicap testers also noticed that they could spot the alignment marker on downswings.
Callaway’S BIG Bertha B21 and Mavrik
Callaway introduced two new models of the Mavrik and Big Bertha B21 drivers in 2020. The Mavrik was the new and improved version of the Epic Flash, which hit the market in 2019 and became one of Callaway’s most popular clubs.
Three drivers are available in the Mavrik Series: Mavrik Sub Zero, Mavrik MAX and Maverick Sub Zero. The Big Bertha Line has only one model for men (B21) and another version for women (REVA.) The Mavrik’s main feature is that it’s a forgiving driver with a large sweet spot. The Big Bertha, on the other hand, is targeted at golfers who like to slice.
What’S It All About?
The new Big Bertha B21 Driver is aimed at golfers who slice the ball and generate high spin due to an open club face, and hitting down on the ball. In order to correct this, Callaway has introduced technology which helps to encourage more of a draw shape whilst also lowering spin for longer, straighter shots.
The Driver is price at PS449, which is pretty high for a ‘game-improvement’ club aimed at higher handicappers, but the B21 Driver is packed with many of the same technologies as the fantastic Mavrik Driver which perhaps goes some way to explaining it.
In order to create that high launch, low spin flight that golfers crave, Callaway have moved the CG further forward and lower in the head in what they are calling a ‘new formula for distance’ that is said to produce straighter, more consistent results.
The large head is also shaped in a way so as to inspire confidence as well as adding internal draw bias weighting for a straighter, longer ball flight.
Flash Face SS21, an AI-designed AI product designed by Flash Face, promotes faster ball speeds across the face and is more forgiving of mishits.
Jailbreak Technology is a technology that has been in use for some time. It consists of two vertical, internal bars connecting the crown and sole to increase ball speed and reinforcement.
For better forgiveness, the new lightweight T2C Triaxial Carbon Crown lets weight be distributed elsewhere within the head.
Callaway Big Bertha B21 review
In the words of Alex Lodge
What do you think about the overall look of the club? It’s still not clear to me. As you can see, the club is full of glare. This has never been a problem in the past and to be honest I’m probably just being a bit picky here, but when it comes to personal preference, I’m not the biggest fan of this feature.
Although the shape of this club is similar to that of Big Bertha’s range many years ago, it has a slight blue tint and red alignment lines on its crown. This gives the club a certain confidence for golfers when they are setting up the ball. Although the shape of this club is slightly different from classic drivers, it’s no problem. It is a draw biased club, as you can see when it was set up.
Review of Callaway Big Bertha B-21 driver
You can feel and look good.
To be honest, I was expecting this driver to look like a frying pan as looks are often sacrificed for performance at this end of the equipment market. How wrong was I? !
It is an attractive club. The blue, red, and grey combo is much more classy than the Mavrik’s black and orange.
Now for the bit you all want to know… just how bad is the offset?
It is obvious that it exists, however, the contours of the face and the color scheme help conceal this. Many golfers will not know what an offset is or why it is so bothersome. Plus if you know that it’s going to help you, it shouldn’t bother you!
Looking down at the club gives you great confidence and it definitely doesn’t feel like you’re using a lesser product than the Mavrik, for example. The club has a high-quality finish. It felt very stable in the hitting zone, and it also sounds great considering its larger shape.
Performance
As a draw is my natural ball flight I was expecting that my testing would result in my shots finishing to the left of target due to the draw bias on this driver, and it did. I didn’t have one shot which was lost to the right of the driving range line but this is exactly what Callaway want, and will be just what plenty of golfers are hoping for after years of trampling through the trees down the right side after yet another slice.
It was almost level with Mavrik in terms of distance, with Mavrik getting to 218 yards. The B21 was mishit at 190, which probably explains the slight difference in distance between them. It doesn’t matter how far you drive.
One I was sure was missing, but it was actually much more straight than I expected. As you can see by the dispersion, the bias always fell towards the left target. This was not surprising but was still encouraging.
To test forgiveness, I tried hitting the ball at different positions on my faces. The B21 was more responsive than the Mavrik, when it came to being hit from the heel, toe and bottom.
On The Course
Knowing you can stand on the tee and hit this club pretty much as hard as you like with only one miss is a positive for me, as the right side of the course just wasn’t in play which allows you to plan for your bad shot. This could be a great tool for someone who doesn’t feel confident about the driver or has no idea where it is going.
On the 15th hole, which is a right-to-left dog leg, this club was fantastic as it really did help me to shape the ball around the corner and cut off some of the hole without having to worry about blocking it out right and leaving myself a much longer approach.
It’s lightweight and comfortable. I was able to swing the shaft quickly after warming up. This could also be great for slower golfers who want to get a little more distance.
The only problem I really found was when I was hitting into the wind, as the ball did seem to launch quite high and spinny and so it was affected more by the wind than I’d have hoped.
The Big Bertha B21 did well on both the course and at range. It was consistent with expectations throughout and produced the expected ball flight. Callaway seems to be living up their promises. I was impressed to see that the performance was very similar to the Mavrik, and I actually thought that it was a little more forgiving too.

How much tech?
The B21 driver is just like Callaway’s Mavrik driver. It has Jailbreak bars to maximize ball speed and swing speed. There’s also a stronger and lighter titanium Flash Face, plus a Triaxial carbon crown to help rinse every last drop of performance from the driver.

Difference Between The Big Bertha And The Mavrik
The first and most pronounced difference we found between these two drivers was in spin rates.
Forward weighting by the Callaway Big Bertha driver resulted in low spin rates, while spin rates from Mavrik were higher or lower.
This meant that, in general, the Callaway Big Bertha was more active than the Mavrik. It should be mentioned that while both the Mavrik and Callaway Big Bertha have interchangeable weights, the Mavrik driver does not.
Who Is The Callaway Golf Gbb Epic Driver Perfect For?
It is an excellent beginner driver for golf because it offers great forgiveness.
Beginner golfers often make mistakes with their swing which causes shots, especially tee shots with a driver to perform incorrectly. Common issues that arise are drives which are topped or sliced.
The reason we like the Callaway Great Big Bertha Driver Driver is that it takes into account beginners’ potential mistakes in the design of their club. This means you will have a better shot even if your driving skills aren’t perfect.
Super Strength Materials
The high quality materials promote optimal ball speed, forgiveness and spin characteristics from a face architecture that’s extremely strong and lighter than traditional titanium.

The club was created for those who struggle with the slice. It has strong draw bias. Personally, I didn’t enjoy hitting so much because of this but it could be incredible for golfers who struggle with this shape. The face has Jailbreak technology so has that hard and fast Callaway driver feel.
Outlet Condition:
This is our highest rated Certified Pre-Owned condition. The outlet condition club has never failed. However, they cannot be sold as new as they could have been floor samples or demo clubs. Outlet condition clubs could exhibit some minor scuffs on the sole or other form of shop-wear.

The popularity of this driver on tour will get the attention of a lot of people and rightly so.

DETAILS: Callaway placed the CG high and forward so that spin could be reduced. This is because reducing spin overall will reduce side-spin, which can cause wayward shots not to be played. It’s a spin-killer with plenty of consistency and forgiveness. It’s a package any high-handicap slicer will no doubt appreciate when they’re finding more fairways. Callaway’s Flash Face SS21 technology was used to assist with mishits. It is based on Artificial Intelligence and boosts ball speed on off-center hits. See 150+ ClubTest 2021 gear reviews. View the product details. Callaway changed the driver’s recipe to achieve the ideal balance between spin and speed. He moved the CG forward and low to increase spin. This is to reduce the side spin that can cause wayward shots not to be played. This spin-killer doesn’t compromise on consistency or forgiveness. You will love it, high-handicap slicers alike.

This is What You Need to Know about The Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver
Callaway’s first high-launch driver. The B21 driver has a very low forward centre gravity which adds speed to the ball. Callaway says this new low spin recipe is for accurate distance and speed at the average swing speed.
Technology: How many?
Just like Callaway’s Mavrik driver, the B21 driver has Jailbreak bars behind the face to max out ball speed from whatever swing speed you can muster. Additionally, the Flash Face is lighter and more durable in titanium. The crown also features a Triaxial carbon crown. This will ensure that every drop of performance is reabsorbed.
Callaway points out that the new, larger B21 head is easier to handle from front to rear. The triangular shape of the new model makes it more forgiving. Internal draw bias is built into each head to help counteract a distance zapping slice, too.
